The public is invited to the event Tuesday at 10 a.m. at 216 East Broadway Street in Columbus.
The substation is in a building which previously housed a branch of First New Mexico Bank, before the bank built a new facility to serve the residents of Columbus.
The bank donated the building to the village, and village officials allowed the Sheriff’s Department to remodel the building to serve as a substation.
Sheriff’s officials said the building, which gives residents a location to report incidents or get more information, is important since the Sheriff’s Department is now the primary law enforcement entity for the village.
Again, the Grand Opening of the Sheriff’s Department’s Columbus sub-station will take place Tuesday at 10 a.m. at 216 East Broadway Street in Columbus. The public is invited.
