
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a July unemployment rate of 16.6%.
That figure is up a 1/10th of a percent from the June revised rate of 16.5%, but
down from last July’s rate of 17.4%.
Following Luna County in the list of New Mexico counties with the worst unemployment is Mora County with 13% unemployment and Guadalupe with 10.4% unemployment. Those were the only three counties in the state with unemployment greater than 10%.
Rounding out the top five are McKinley at 9.9%, and Taos at 9.5%.
In our area: Grant and Hidalgo counties both had 7.3% unemployment in July, and the Las Cruces area had 7.8%.
The county with the least unemployment remains Los Alamos with 3.7%.
The state unemployment rate for July – at 6.6% – was up slightly from the June revised rate of 6.5%.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 13,241 – with 11,049 employed and 2,192 unemployed.
