DEMING – A number of youth were honored prior to Saturday night's Junior Livestock Sale at the Southwestern New Mexico State Fair.
Makayla Kane was recognized with the Bert Irwin Memorial Award for outstanding high school senior who is an all-around showman.
Rydon Bookout received the Shiflett Memorial Award for outstanding first-year showman.
The Mary Milo Award for outstanding all-around junior who didn't make the sale went to Jakob O’Toole.
The Darrel Bishop Memorial given to a first-year showman went to Izaihiz Nunn.
The Border Belles Award for a first-year steer showman went to Taylor Chaffin.
And the Top Hand Award for showmanship, citizenship and overall help at the fair went to Izaihiz Nunn.
The Senior Steer Showman was Marc Dominguez and the Junior Steer Showman was Blakely Hyatt.
The Senior Swine Showman was Emily Davenport and the Junior Swine Showman was Kendahl Bingham.
The Senior Sheep Showman was Kamryn Zachek and the Junior Sheep Showman was Jazmin Perea.
The Senior Goat Showman was Maison Treadwell and the Junior Goat Showman was Jakob O’Toole.
And the Senior Rabbit Showman was Trinity Ruebush and the Junior Rabbit Showman was Nicole Jasso.
Also, the youth participants awarded the “Hero Award” to Wesley and Dianna Peterson for their constant support of the youth and the fair.
