A media release said that as work to improve landscaping around the pond continues and a control facility is built, a steady stream of about 400 gallons per minute has been flowing since June 3rd to fill the excavated area.
Deming Community Services Director Alexi Jackson said the 20-million-gallon capacity of the area will be full this month. Swimming in the pond is not allowed.
Jackson said the project is a unique water conservation project, with the “wetlands” area to be fed by waterfalls created by rocks placed with the help of youth from the AmeriCorps program.
Native plants, new landscaping and new trails will surround the water area.
Plans include construction of a new, all-inclusive playground budgeted for the city’s new fiscal year, which starts in July.
This will create the second all-inclusive playground open to children of all abilities within the city. The first is at Nacio “Herb” Brown Park, located at the corner of Spruce and Eighth Streets
