Deming Police Chief Bobby Orosco said 24-year-old Edgar Verdugo Duran was eventually arrested at 1000 Blue Bonnet for resisting, evading or obstructing officers and on two Magistrate warrants: one for two counts of false imprisonment, three counts of battery against a household member, bribery or intimidation of a witness, interfering with communications, and causing criminal damage to property, and one for aggravated stalking.
Also arrested at the residence were three men – 27-year-old Marcelo Enriquez, 23-year-old Patrick Medina, and 20-year-old Armando Valenzuela – for interfering with officers.
Orosco said the standoff began at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when officers attempted to arrest Duran on the warrants, and ended just before 8 a.m. Wednesday after a chemical agent was deployed into the house.
Orosco credited officers on his department’s Special Response and Crisis Negotiation teams, as well as New Mexico State Police officials who assisted, with Duran’s eventual arrest.
