Chief Deputy Janice Schryer with the Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s office said the jury deliberated for just over four hours Monday afternoon before returning with the guilty verdict for 20-year-old Adrian Vigil.
Vigil was charged with shooting to death his father, 66-year-old David Vigil, on November 9th, 2013, in the 300 block of South Ninth Street.
Shryer, who was lead prosecutor on the case, said the jury determined Vigil had mental issues that may have prevented him from forming specific intent to murder his father.
Shryer said Vigil was sent for a 60-day evaluation with the Department of Corrections, and that sentencing would follow the evaluation.
Schryer and Prosecutor Jose Arguello presented the state’s case in the six-day jury trial before Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Jennifer DeLaney in Deming.
Vigil was represented by Attorney Michael Rosenfield.
