
Luna County Election Administrator Leslie Nabours said 4,355 Luna County voters voted early, and 481 absentee ballots had been returned as of Monday at noon.
There are 11,916 eligible voters in the county.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Luna County’s three voting convenience centers. All registered voters who did not vote early or absentee may vote at either the Mimbres Valley Learning and Special Events Center at 2300 East Pine Street or Holy Family Parish Hall at 615 South Copper or the Columbus Community Library at 112 West Broadway in Columbus.
Locally contested races include State Representative, with Republican Vicki Chavez and Democrat Candie Sweetser vying to succeed Dona Irwin, who is retiring.
Republican John Sweetser and Democrat Crystal Pena are running for the County Commission District 3 seat currently held by Javier Diaz, who is ineligible to run again because of term limits.
And Republican Tammy Zumwalt and Democrat Gloria Rodriguez are vying to succeed Luna County Treasurer Dora Madrid, who also is ineligible to run again because of term limits.
Also, Jarod Hofacket is running unopposed for Sixth Judicial District Court Judge to succeed Daniel Viramontes, who retired in August.
And incumbent Luna County Clerk Andrea Rodriguez and incumbent District 35 State Senator John Arthur Smith are both running unopposed for additional four-year terms in their respective positions.
