Chief Brandon Gigante said good patrol work led to the arrest of 37-year-old Shelby Anderson.
Gigante said Corporal Alicia Granillo was patrolling Thursday afternoon and saw a van abandoned near Hood Road and the Columbus Highway that matched the description of a van stolen hours earlier from Helping Hand thrift store in the Deming Industrial Park.
Granillo saw tracks leading from the van to a nearby welding shop, where Anderson was hiding.
Anderson has been charged with burglary, larceny, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, causing criminal damage to property, possessing burglary tools and two counts of tampering with evidence.
He also was wanted on an outstanding warrant charging him in the January 20th burglary of the Sisbarro Superstore in Deming.
Gigante said they were able to recover most of the property stolen from True Value.
And, he said, they are still investigating whether Anderson is responsible for other commercial burglaries in the area.
