The 90-minute sessions, entitled “Know Your Rights,” are designed to help people understand their rights, including limitations within the 100-mile border zone.
For example, the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects Americans from random and arbitrary stops and searches. But at border crossings or ports of entry, federal authorities do not need a warrant or even suspicion of wrongdoing to justify conducting what courts have called a "routine search," such as searching luggage or a vehicle.
The “Know Your Rights” training in Deming will take place Thursday, July 19th, at 5:30 p.m. at La Fonda Restaurant, 601 E. Pine.
The Columbus training will take place Saturday, July 21st, at 10:30 a.m. in the Columbus Village Library, 112 Broadway.
