The start location this year for the popular ride that draws motorcyclists from across the country is the Quality Inn – formerly the Holiday Inn – off Highway 70 East in Deming.
This is the first time Deming has been the start location, and motorcyclists will be taking off from the motel lobby between 3-6 a.m. Friday.
The finish location is the Canada Inn Polo Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where the riders should arrive Monday between noon and 9 p.m.
Checkpoints along the route are in Delta, Colorado… Chadron, Nebraska… and Bismarck, North Dakota.
The Three Flags Classic Motorcycle Tour is sponsored by the Southern California Motorcycle Association, and began in 1974 as a way to rekindle the border-to-border runs popular in the early 1900s when cars and motorcycles were exciting new ways to travel.
Deming resident Bob Speer has participated in the ride six times, and said the motorcyclists travel 2400 miles in the four days.
Speer said the Deming Shrine Club is helping host the riders.
