
This year's theme is: "Remember When… Celebrating the Present by Honoring Our Past."
Entries for art, baking, canning, crafts, crops, gem and minerals, photography, 4-H and home economics departments will be accepted from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday.
Events begin Wednesday at 5 p.m. with the poultry show, followed by the pig show at 6 p.m.
Then activities continue Thursday at 8 a.m. with the lamb show, followed by the goat show at 10 a.m.
Flower show entries will be received Thursday from 8-10 a.m.
Judging for art, 4-H and home economics entries will take place Thursday morning as well.
The steer show is Thursday at 1 p.m., followed by the rabbit show at 2 p.m.
The home economics building opens to the public at 1 p.m. Thursday as well.
And Thursday’s events wrap up with the 2017 Fair Royalty competition and cake auction beginning at 6 p.m.
Also, the carnival opens to the public Thursday at 5 p.m., and will be open through Saturday night.
Friday at 10 a.m. is the Southwestern New Mexico State Fair Parade through downtown Deming. The 2017 Grand Marshalls are Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Diaz.
The Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau is sponsoring a hamburger cookout at the fairgrounds Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. to celebrate the organization’s centennial.
And then Agtoberfest – the fun and educational youth event – will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the fairgrounds.
There will be entertainment Friday and Saturday throughout the day, and dances Friday and Saturday nights at the fairgrounds.
Saturday’s events include a ranch rodeo beginning at noon, a boxing competition – the Fairgrounds Showdown – from 3-8 p.m., and the Junior Livestock Sale and Awards beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday there will be a gymkhana beginning at 9 a.m., followed by team roping from 1-3 p.m.
The fair wraps up Sunday afternoon with entries picked up from 1-3 p.m.
