Superintendent Dr. Dan Lere said he will be recommending the district adopt a calendar similar to the current school calendar during the March school board meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 19th at 5 p.m. in the Emmett Shockley Administration Building off Cody Road.
Lere said the school district has spent months studying possible school calendars as well as surveying school district staff and the community.
He said the calendar he is proposing would include 25 extra, voluntary days for grades kindergarten through fifth during July and August.
Secondary students would start school at the usual time of the year.
Lere said the major change would be a week break prior to spring testing. Due to this break, students would finish the school year in early June.
In addition to considering Lere’s recommendation, the board reportedly will discuss a year-round calendar option – the 45/15 Balanced Calendar – during the meeting.
