
(Deming) – A steer raised by Reuben Bookout won the top spot at this year's Southwestern New Mexico State Fair.
Bookout’s steer won the medium class before being selected as the Grand Champion of the show.
A steer raised by Karlie Hudson placed second in the medium class before being selected as the Reserve Grand Champion steer.
The first-place short-class steer was raised by Marc Dominguez, and the first-place tall-class steer was raised by Reuben Bookout.
Other youth raising steers which placed in the top three of their respective classes were Emily Davenport, Kari Dominguez, Kylan Swinney, and Reid Swinney.
The Grand Champion in the county-bred steer competition was raised by Reuben Bookout from Wood Cattle Company stock.
The Reserve Grand Champion county-bred steer was raised by Emily Davenport from Russ and Shannon Treadwell’s stock.
And third place in the county-bred steer competition was raised by Reid Swinney from James Hervol’s stock.
The county-bred steer competition is sponsored by the Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau, with the youth receiving $1,000, $750 and $500 for the first, second and third place steers, respectively.
Davenport, Phillips Sweep the Poultry Shows
(Deming) – The Southwestern New Mexico State Fair is continuing through Sunday in the Deming Industrial Park.
The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion turkeys were raised by Emily Davenport.
The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion chickens were raised by Megan Phillips.
The Grand Champion rabbit was raised by Trinity Ruebush.
And the Grand Champion cake was baked by Carlie Paulk.
Treadwell Wins Goat Show
(Deming) – A goat raised by Maison Treadwell was selected as the top goat in this year's Southwestern New Mexico State Fair.
Treadwell's goat was judged first in the medium-heavy class before winning the Grand Champion honors.
The Reserve Grand Champion goat was the lightweight class winner raised by Jaden Ruttle.
Marc Dominguez raised the medium-weight class winner, and second in the medium class was raised by Kamryn Zachek.
The heavyweight class winner was raised by Taylor Chaffin, and second in that class was raised by Ciera Wood.
Second place in the lightweight class was raised by Tatumn O’Toole, and second place in the medium-heavy class was raised by Jaden Ruttle.
Other youth raising goats which placed in the top three of their respective classes were Melody Ruebush and Trinity Ruebush.
Treadwell Wins Lamb Show
(Deming) – A black-face lamb raised by Maison Treadwell was selected as the top sheep in this year's Southwestern New Mexico State Fair.
Treadwell's winning lamb placed first in the heavyweight class before winning the Grand Champion honors.
The Reserve Grand Champion sheep was the lightweight class winner raised by Brent Hays.
The medium class winner was raised by Halee Caldwell, with second place in the medium class being raised by Presley Jackson.
And the medium-heavy class winner was raised by Brent Hays, with Tanner Caldwell raising the second-place sheep in that class.
The second-place lightweight lamb was raised by Kamryn Zachek, and the second-place heavyweight lamb was raised by Daisy Perea.
Other youth raising lambs which placed in the top three of their respective classes were Kari Dominguez and Tatumn O’Toole.
