Solitare Homes General Manger Brett Jenkins said they were “basically romanced by local leaders to invest in Deming” back in 2001.
The company, which has been in business nearly 50 years with five locations in New Mexico, six in Oklahoma and 12 in Texas, started in Deming by hiring approximately 125 workers, and now has 200 employees.
Deming Luna County Economic Development Director Linda Smrkovsky said it is important for her office to stay in touch and build strong relationships with local businesses in order to assist them with obtaining federal and state programs such as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Jenkins said they have used some of those programs over the years to enhance their business and add to the employment opportunities at Solitare.
Jenkins said that the community has embraced Solitare, and Solitare gives back to the community by supporting its youth. He noted that Solitare has been the top sponsor for Class Act, Deming High School’s drug-free and alcohol-free graduation party.
