
Deputies began searching the area for occupants and located a male with blood-stained clothes, lying on the north side of Monte Vista Road in a pecan orchard. Deputies attempted to provide first aid, however, they found no pulse and rigor mortis had set in. The man was later identified as 23-year-old Antonio Montez of the 7200 block of Crystal Road SE. He sustained and at least one gunshot wound to his lower torso. The caliber of the bullet is yet to be determined.
Captain Michael Brown advised that investigators believe the incident is related to a shots fired call deputies responded to after midnight. Reports were made that 5 to 6 gunshots were heard in the 7200 block of Crystal Road SE. Responding deputies, having, little information at the time, were unable to locate the source of the gunfire.
At approximately 7:30 AM, a resident in the neighborhood found bullet fragments inside their home, causing the investigation to widen and creating a second crime scene.
Both crime scenes are still under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and New Mexico State Police crime scene investigators.
