Luna County Sheriff’s Captain Jose Martinez said they received a call of a one-vehicle rollover accident near the intersection of Keeler Road and Hidden Valley Ranch Road at just before 4 p.m. Saturday, and the caller said the driver had fled from the vehicle.
Deputies found the wrecked vehicle, and then located 57-year-old Luis Varela hiding in the bushes.
Martinez said Varela had a cut on his right wrist and complained of injuries to his left shoulder.
Varela was wanted on three Magistrate warrants – two for failure to pay fines and one for failure to appear – and was cited for having an open container, careless driving, failing to immediately notify authorities of an accident, no driver’s license and not wearing a seatbelt.
