Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Daniel Viramontes swore in newly elected members John Sweetser and Ron Wolfe. The two had previously been sworn in in Santa Fe at a statewide school board training during the legislative session.
The meeting was opened by School Superintendent Harvielee Moore before the first item of business – electing a president for the upcoming year. Bayne Anderson, who served as president last year, was re-elected by a unanimous vote of the members present.
Dr. Andy Hernandez was re-elected vice-president, and Ruben Torres, who was not at the meeting because of a family emergency, was re-elected Secretary.
In other school news… the New Mexico Activities Association has proposed a new alignment beginning with the 2014-2015 school year that would place Deming in a district with Mayfield, Las Cruces High and Gadsden.
Athletic and Activities Director Mike Ellis said the move would affect activities like band and chorus as well as athletics and cheer.
Ellis said they plan to appeal.
