The Deming School Board selected Dr. Arsenio Romero to succeed Dr. Dan Lere, who is retiring at the end of June.
Romero most recently served the Roswell Independent School District as Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Turnaround.
Prior to that, he served for over 13 years as a principal in seven Las Cruces elementary schools.
Romero also has served as an assistant professor for both New Mexico State University and Eastern New Mexico University.
He is a graduate of Belen High School and New Mexico State University.
Romero’s contract lists an annual salary of $120,000 with benefits including use of a district vehicle, and specifies that he will live in the Deming Public School district.
Board President Matt Robinson said Romero and his wife already are looking for a home in Deming and they have children who will be attending Deming Public Schools.
Romero was selected from a field of seven finalists for the position.
