
Adriana Darrow, Javier Rodriguez and Freddy Sanchez represented New Mexico in the National MESA USA Competition held in Ogden, Utah, June 17th-20th.
The competition was divided into six categories: distance accuracy, object relocation, oral presentation, technical paper, informational poster and design efficiency.
The Red Mountain Middle School team placed first in the nation in design efficiency, and second in the nation in object relocation.
The Deming students’ total score earned them third place overall, with a team from Washington winning first place, and a team from Oregon taking second place.
The prosthetic arm competition was held on the campus of Weber State University, where students, sponsors and guests got a taste of college life by staying in the dormitories.
The Red Mountain Middle School MESA USA team sponsor for this year was Monika Vélez.
This is the third consecutive year that a team from Red Mountain Middle School has won at the state level and advanced to the national finals.
