The board approved the calendar recommended by Superintendent Dr. Dan Lere which has students beginning school August 17th, then out of school for a full week in October, out a full week in November for Thanksgiving, out two weeks at Christmas, seven days off in March and a full week off in May, with the school year ending June 9th.
The board’s decision followed overwhelming public input at the meeting in support of the revised calendar from principals, teachers, parents and community leaders.
Lere said the calendar is close to the current calendar but takes a step in the direction of a year-round calendar by taking week-long breaks within the year and extending the school year into the summer months.
Lere previously said they would spend the next year informing teachers, parents and students about the reasons for a year-round calendar.
