The organization purchased a new animal control unit to outfit a truck officers had been using with an old-style cage in the bed.
The purchase was made possible by a $5,000 donation from Depcom, which supported several community organizations during the opening of its solar farm off Hwy 26.
Cancer Support of Deming and Luna County also donated a van to the Humane Society for animal transport.
And the Deming Headlight’s Pet Page, which is published on Fridays and features dogs and cats available for adoption at the shelter, continues to be supported through donations.
The Humane Society operates the Deming Animal Shelter with funding from the city of Deming, village of Columbus, and Luna County, but officials say donations are critical to address problems arising from pet breeding, over-population and irresponsible pet owners.
In addition to money, donations of blankets, towels and laundry detergent are needed.
