The solar energy center, located off the Columbus Highway and Coyote Road Southwest, first came online in 2011 with 78,000 panels.
The addition of 60,000 panels means an $8.3 million investment in the facility – which PNM officials say is part of the company’s $180 million commitment to solar energy.
Officials emphasized that the project also has created 75 construction jobs this year and will create $59,000 in tax revenue for Luna County next year.
PNM’s Deming Solar Energy Center will now produce the amount of energy used for 4,800 average homes.
Officials had other regional news to report as well: PNM customers will get their first geothermal energy next year from a plant being developed south of Lordsburg.
