(Deming) – A pedestrian was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle on the Columbus Highway.
New Mexico State Police officials are reporting that the man, who was dressed entirely in black, stepped into oncoming traffic at the intersection of Herrington Rd. north of Columbus at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3rd.
A 2010 Mazda sedan being driven north on the Columbus Highway struck the man, killing him on impact.
Witnesses reported that it appeared the man intentionally walked into the oncoming traffic.
State Police officials have not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of next of kin.
The case remains under investigation.
