51-year-old Paul Maynes was arrested by New Mexico State Police officers Friday afternoon while at work for Deming Public Schools.
According to the criminal complaint, Maynes left a threatening voicemail on a cell phone stating he would release intimate photos of the female victim if she entered into a new relationship.
The complaint says the voicemail was sent April 6th, and was supported by text messages sent by Maynes to the victim in the same time period.
According to the complaint, the victim initially approached state police officers on September 12th with the information on the threats, and the District Attorney’s office approved the extortion charge on October 31st.
Maynes’ current position with Deming schools is security for grades kinder through 6th – a position he started with this school year. He previously was campus security at Deming High School and served as the head boys’ basketball coach for six years, ending with the 2013 basketball season.
Maynes has been a DPS employee for approximately 19 years.
