That’s because Luna County is hosting the 2014 New Mexico Association of Counties annual conference.
Association members are expected to arrive in Deming this Sunday. The conference begins with registration Monday morning, and ends with a dinner and dance Thursday evening.
Former Luna County Manager Kelly Kuenstler is the local coordinator for the event.
County officials said the conference will boost the Luna County economy.
Motels in the Deming area reportedly are full for the week, and many restaurants in town will be catering the conference. There are numerous facilities around the county that will be used for special events during the week as well.
Plus gasoline stations and retail businesses should enjoy a spike in revenue with the out-of-town visitors.
The Luna County commissioners successfully lobbied the New Mexico Association of Counties board last year to host the event in Deming.
County Manager Tink Jackson said he plans on releasing the total gross receipts benefits for Luna County and the City of Deming from this event as soon as the information becomes available.
