On January 3rd, a Border Patrol agent utilizing camera technology spotted three men entering Luna County from Mexico west of the Columbus port of entry.
Border Patrol agents were guided by the camera operator to a remote location northeast of the entry point, then followed footprints and found the three men attempting to conceal themselves behind brush.
During processing for illegal entry it was discovered that one of the men – 29-year-old Francisco Esparza Gallegos – had an extensive criminal history including charges of homicide in Mexico.
Esparza was transported to the Luna County Detention Center pending criminal prosecution for illegal re-entry and then will be extradited to face the murder charges in Mexico.
