Moore posted a letter dated Monday on the DPS website saying she will be retiring at the conclusion of her current contract, which ends June 30th, 2014.
She said she was touched when recognized at the end of the school year with a standing ovation from teachers and staff for her 45 years of service to Deming Public Schools, and said it was with mixed emotions that she announced her retirement.
School Board President Bayne Anderson said Moore’s announcement means no board action will take place at Thursday’s meeting regarding a contract extension.
A revised legal notice for Thursday’s meeting was posted last week, removing Moore’s contract from the agenda.
Anderson said Moore will have worked for Deming Public Schools 46 years at the conclusion of her contract, first as a classroom instructor, then district administrator, and ultimately as superintendent for the past nine years.
Anderson said the board appreciates Moore’s dedication to Deming schools, will continue to work closely with Moore during the upcoming year, and then wishes her the best when her retirement begins.
Again, Deming Public Schools Superintendent Harvielee Moore has announced that she will retire at the end of her current contract on June 30th of next year.
