The body of 23-year-old Antonio Montez of Deming was found in a pecan orchard off Monte Vista Road SW early Wednesday morning.
Montez had been shot in the torso.
Investigators believe Montez’s murder is related to a report of shots fired just after midnight Wednesday in the 7200 block of Crystal Road SE, where Montez resided.
The source of the gunfire was not immediately located.
Deputies found Montez’s body after responding to a separate report of a 2002 Honda Accord crashed on the side of Monte Vista
Rd. SW – a vehicle in which they found several bullet holes and blood in the driver’s seat.
Montez was found unresponsive a short distance from the vehicle.
Also early Wednesday morning a resident in the Crystal Road SE neighborhood found bullet fragments inside their home.
Both crime scenes remain under investigation by the Sheriff’s office and New Mexico State Police crime scene investigators.
