State Department of Public Safety officials said 15-year-old Safrina Ugsang, and her sister, 13-year-old Vanessa, were found in a 2000 Lincoln Towncar driven by their father, Robeet Ugsang, which arrived at the checkpoint at about 1 a.m. Sunday.
An Amber Alert had been issued Thursday for Safrina, who authorities believed might have been abducted last week from her home by her uncle, 48-year-old Chris Salgado.
She was last seen just after midnight Thursday leaving her T-or-C home with her Salgado. Authorities thought they might have been headed to Pamona, California, and there was concern she might become the victim of a sex crime.
The girls were detained at the checkpoint until
officers from Truth or Consequences arrived to take custody of
them.
Reportedly, both children were in good
condition and unharmed.
