The Deming Headlight is reporting that American Magnesium, LLC, recently submitted revised maps, figures, and other changes requested by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
The application proposes to truck dolomite rock from the site at the base of the Florida Mountains approximately 15 miles southeast of Deming to a processing facility where magnesium metal would be extracted and the leftover rock used to manufacture cement.
Geological Engineer David Tognoni with American Magnesium said the company expects to construct a processing facility within the city of Deming's Peru Mill Industrial Park and purchase water from Deming.
But Deming City Administrator Aaron Sera said there have been no negotiations regarding the purchase of commercial water with the City of Deming.
BLM officials have yet to schedule public hearings on the proposed mine, pending American Magnesium’s completed application.
