Military Vehicle Preservation Association vehicles will start arriving in Deming on Saturday afternoon, October 10th, and will leave Monday, October 12th.
As many as 65 historic military vehicles are expected, ranging from World War I-era to those just released from the U.S. Armed Forces inventories.
Organizers say they will be staying for two nights at Deming Roadrunner RV Park on East Pine Street.
The public is invited to visit Sunday, October 11th.
In 1920, the U.S. Army executed a motor convoy of various military vehicles across the country on the newly-formed Bankhead Highway. The 1920 route began at the White House, in Washington, D.C., and ended at Balboa Park in San Diego, California – some 3,300 miles and 116 days later.
The Military Vehicle Preservation Association is retracing the original 1920 Transcontinental Motor Convoy route along the Bankhead Highway to mark the 95th anniversary of the route.
The convoy left Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 19th,
and is scheduled to arrive in San Diego, California, on Saturday, October 17th.
Organizers are billing the trip as America’s longest veterans’
parade, honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans of all generations.
