After spending some time in the Radio industry, Steve’s interest in weather peaked again in the mid 2000s. in 2005, he enrolled at Mississippi State University, in the Operational Meteorology program, graduating in 2009. He obtained his American Meteorological Society Seal Of Approval in December that same year. He spent 5 years as a weather intern/producer for KMGH-TV before going into the field professionally. Steve is now one of the lead meteorologists for a company called The Storm Report, based in Kansas City, MO. The Storm Report specializes in delivering custom weather forecasts to radio stations across the country.
Steve works from his home studio, sending out live and recorded weather forecasts to nearly 100 radio stations, along with live severe weather updates whenever necessary. He works at this position 7 days a week. "The weather never stops, and neither do we", he says, in reference to himself and his colleagues at The Storm Report. He is also a “Storm Chaser”. He’s been on hundreds of solo chases, and has also been a guide and driver for Silver Lining Tours, taking part in 10 large team chases. He has seen over 40 tornadoes and countless severe thunderstorms.
Steve is in the process of developing a weather-related podcast, which he intends to launch this year. Steve is also a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™ initiative is NOAA's effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and challenging meteorological events.
We welcome Steve and his years in radio, and weather to Deming Radio on KOTS-AM, and KDEM-FM.
