Deming Police Captain Bobby Orosco said officers were initially dispatched to a call of shots-fired in the 1400 block of East Rose at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday but couldn’t locate a shooter or a victim.
Shortly thereafter they were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a man bleeding from his head. Again, no contact was made.
But, Orosco said, they ultimately received a call from the hospital at about 1 a.m. Wednesday when a 26-year-old Deming man arrived for treatment of a gunshot wound to his head.
The victim told officers that a man produced a rifle during an altercation on East Rose. The victim said he tried to run from the man but was hit by a bullet.
Orosco said they are searching for the suspect and the case is ongoing.
