A narcotics canine working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the port alerted to a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup being driven by 23-year-old Daniel Gonzalez Acosta of Nuevo Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Officers then scanned the vehicle with a density meter, and received high readings consistent with hidden contraband.
A closer examination revealed a number of bundles of marijuana hidden in the floor of the cab and bed of the pickup.
The seizure total was 451 pounds.
Gonzales Acosta was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI agents in connection with the failed smuggling attempt.
And that was only one bust. Officers working at the ports in Columbus and Antelope Wells seized another 955 pounds of marijuana in five other incidents this weekend.
