Deming Police Chief Bobby Orosco said 31-year-old Jorge Saucedo has been charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, two counts of burglary, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, and reckless driving.
Orosco said the charges date back to an August 31st break-in at a residence off W. Birch in which the father of the resident allegedly surprised Saucedo in the process of burglarizing the home.
Saucedo threatened the man with a knife and then fled in a vehicle, and the man gave chase.
Officers eventually found the vehicle abandoned off the frontage road west of Deming.
Orosco said the vehicle had been stolen from a residence off S. Granite, and when the property owner returned home Wednesday, the owner alerted authorities that Guatemalan currency also had been stolen from the home.
Orosco said the currency had been exchanged at Wells Fargo Bank, and Saucedo was identified through surveillance video.
