
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a July unemployment rate of 15%, up from the revised June rate of 14.7%, but down from the July 2013 rate of 16.1%.
Luna County once again had the highest unemployment percentage in the state, followed by Mora with 12.9%, and McKinley with 11%.
Those were the only three New Mexico counties with double-digit unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment rates in the state in July were Taos at 8.8%, Sandoval at 8.7%, and Torrance at 8.6%.
In our area, Grant County had 7.8% unemployment in July, Hidalgo County had 6.9% and the Las Cruces area had 8%.
The county with the least unemployment was Harding with 4%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.6% in July – up slightly from June.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 13,555 – with 11,526 employed and 2,029 unemployed.
