
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a February unemployment rate of 19.6%, down from the revised January rate of 20.5%, but up slightly from the February 2016 rate of 19.2%.
Luna and Sierra were the only counties in the state with double-digit unemployment. Sierra County showed 10.1% unemployment last month.
Other counties with high unemployment in February were McKinley at 9.5%, Mora and Torrance at 9.4% and Farmington at 9%.
In our area, Grant County had 6.9% unemployment in February, Hidalgo County had 6.1% and the Las Cruces area had 7.6%.
The county with the least unemployment was Los Alamos at 4.2%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.8% in February – up slightly from January.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 10,588 – with 8,510 employed and 2,078 unemployed.
