
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with an April unemployment rate of 15.6%, down from the March revised rate of 17.3%, and down significantly from the April 2015 rate of 20.8%.
Despite the gains, Luna remains the only county in the state with double-digit unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment last month were Mora and Sierra – both at 8.2%.
In our area, Grant County had 5.5% unemployment last month, Hidalgo County had 5.9% and the Las Cruces area had 6.7%.
The county with the least unemployment in April was Union with 3%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.2% in April – unchanged from March.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 10,093 – with 8,517 employed and 1,576 unemployed.
