
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a February unemployment rate of 18.8%, down from the revised January rate of 20%, and down from the February 2013 rate of 19.9%.
Luna County once again had the highest unemployment percentage in the state, followed by Mora with 15%. Those were the only two New Mexico counties with double-digit unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment rates in the state in February were McKinley at 9.6%, Taos at 9%, and Rio Arriba and Torrance at 8.9% each.
In our area, Grant County had 7.7% unemployment in February, Hidalgo County had 7.1% and the Las Cruces area had 8.1%.
The counties with the least unemployment were Eddy, Lea and Los Alamos with 4.5% each.
Unemployment statewide was 6.7% in February.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 11,984 – with 9,734 employed and 2,250 unemployed.
