Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a September unemployment rate of 12.8%, down from the August revised rate of 13.6%, and down from the September 2014 rate of 13.3%.
Luna was one of two counties in the state with double-digit unemployment in September; the other county was McKinley with 10% unemployment.
Rounding out the top five were Torrance at 9.4%, Mora at 9.1%, and Taos at 9%.
In our area, Grant County had 6.8% unemployment in September, Hidalgo County had 6.4% and the Las Cruces area had 7.3%.
The county with the least unemployment remained Los Alamos with 4.4%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.8% in September – up slightly from August.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 10,752 – with 9,373 employed and 1,379 unemployed.
