
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a May unemployment rate of 16.3%, down from the revised April rate of 17.6%, and down from the May 2013 rate of 17.8%.
Luna County once again had the highest unemployment percentage in the state, followed by Mora with 12%. Those were the only two New Mexico counties with double-digit unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment rates in the state in May were Taos at 9.1%, McKinley at 8.3% and Rio Arriba at 7%.
In our area, Grant County had 5.8% unemployment in May, Hidalgo County had 5.4% and the Las Cruces area had 6.7%.
The county with the least unemployment was Harding with 2.7%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.5% in May.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 12,406 – with 10,387 employed and 2,019 unemployed.
