
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a June unemployment rate of 14.6%, down from the revised May rate of 16.3%, and down from the June 2013 rate of 16.1%.
Luna County once again had the highest unemployment percentage in the state, followed by Mora with 12.5%, and McKinley with 10.3%.
Those were the only three New Mexico counties with double-digit unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment rates in the state in June were Taos at 8.9% and Sandoval and Torrance, both at 8.5%.
In our area, Grant County had 7.6% unemployment in June, Hidalgo County had 6.4% and the Las Cruces area had 8%.
The county with the least unemployment was Harding with 3.6%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.5% in June – unchanged from May.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 13,176 – with 11,258 employed and 1,918 unemployed.
