
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with an April unemployment rate of 17.3%, down from the revised March rate of 18%, but up from the April 2016 rate of 16.4%.
Luna remains the only county in the state with double-digit unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment in April were Sierra at 9%, Taos at 8.6%, Mora at 8.5%, McKinley at 8.4%, and Torrance at 8%.
In our area, Grant County had 6.3% unemployment in April, Hidalgo County had 5.7% and the Las Cruces area had 7.1%.
The county with the least unemployment was Los Alamos at 3.6%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.7% in April – unchanged from March.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 10,756 – with 8,897 employed and 1,859 unemployed.
