
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a July unemployment rate of 10.7%, down from the revised June rate of 11.9%, and down from the July 2016 rate of 11.4%.
Luna and McKinley counties are the only New Mexico counties with double-digit unemployment. McKinley County’s July unemployment rate was 10.4%.
Other counties with high unemployment in July were Cibola at 9.1%, Torrance at 8.9%, Taos and San Miguel – both at 8.6%, the Farmington area at 8.2%, Socorro at 8.1%, and Harding at 8%.
In our area, Grant County had 7.2% unemployment last month, Hidalgo County had 5.6% and the Las Cruces area had 7.7%.
The county with the least unemployment last month was Union at 4.3%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.3% in July – down slightly from June.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 11,489 – with 10,259 employed and 1,230 unemployed.
