
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a May unemployment rate of 10.6%, down considerably from the revised April rate of 13.9%, and also from the May 2017 rate of 13.5%.
However, Luna remains the only New Mexico county with double-digit unemployment.
Sierra was the next closest county, and its unemployment in May was 6.7%.
In our area, Grant County had 3.9% unemployment in May, Hidalgo County had 3.1%, and the Las Cruces area had 4.9%.
The county with the least unemployment in May was Union at 2.5%.
Unemployment statewide was 5.1% in May – down slightly from April.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 10,175 – with 9,100 employed and 1,075 unemployed.
