
DEMING - The Luna County Volunteer Fire Department recently received a $100,000 grant from the State Fire Protection Funds. The department will use this money for vehicle extrication equipment.
Fire Chief Pablo Montoya said that this equipment will help the department respond to emergencies more efficiently and safely.
The department also received $25,000 for recruitment efforts. Montoya said that the department is always looking for new volunteers who want to serve the community.
The Luna County Monthly Newsletter also reported that some of the department’s members are attending training programs. Fire Captain Zamora, Captain Wilkerson and Firefighter Lewis are at the Fire Academy. Cadet Tarazon, Cadet Rincon and Cadet McBurney are at Hazmat Training.
Montoya said that he was proud of his volunteers and thanked them for their time and efforts in making the local community safer.
