
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of
Workforce Solutions show Luna County with an October unemployment rate of 11.8%.
That figure is the same as September’s revised rate, but down from last October’s rate of 13.2%.
Following Luna County in the list of New Mexico counties with the worst unemployment is Mora
County with 11.1%.
Those were the only two counties in the state with unemployment greater than 10%.
Rounding out the top five are Guadalupe at 8.2%, and Taos and McKinley both at 7.8%.
In our area: Grant County had 6.4% unemployment in October, Hidalgo County had 5.9%, and the
Las Cruces area had 6.7%. The county with the least unemployment remains Los Alamos with 3.4%.
The state unemployment rate for October – at 6.3% – was down slightly from the September
revised rate of 6.4%. The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 12,866 – with 11,342 employed and 1,524 unemployed.
