
Luna County had the second-highest unemployment percentage in the state in October, following Mora with 12.1%. Those were the only two New Mexico counties with double-digit unemployment.
Rounding out the top five counties with the highest unemployment rates in the state in October were McKinley with 8.8%, Taos at 8.3% and Guadalupe at 8% even.
In our area, Grant County had 6.6% unemployment in October, Hidalgo County had 5.3% and the Las Cruces area had 6.8%.
The county with the least unemployment is Harding with 3.6%.
The state unemployment rate for October – at 6.6% – was down slightly from the September revised rate of 6.7%, and down from the October 2012 rate of 6.8%.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 12,978 – with 11,526 employed and 1,452 unemployed.
