Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of
Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a December unemployment rate of 17.8%.
That figure is higher than November’s revised rate of 15.9%, and up from last December’s rate of 17.1%.
Following Luna County in the list of New Mexico counties with the worst unemployment is Mora County with 14%.
Those were the only two counties in the state with unemployment greater than 10%.
Rounding out the top five are Guadalupe at 8.6%, McKinley at 8.3% and Taos at 8.1%.
In our area: Grant County had 6.9% unemployment in December, Hidalgo County had 7.1% and the Las Cruces area had 6.8%.
The county with the least unemployment remains Los Alamos with 3.6%.
The state unemployment rate for December – at 6.4% – was up slightly from the November revised rate of 6.2% but down from last December’s rate of 7%.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 12,199 – with 10,024 employed and 2,175 unemployed.
