
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with an April unemployment rate of 17.6%, down from the revised March rate of 19.2%, and down from the April 2013 rate of 20%.
Luna County once again had the highest unemployment percentage in the state, followed by Mora with 13.3%. Those were the only two New Mexico counties with double-digit unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment rates in the state in April were Taos at 8.6%, McKinley at 8.2% and Rio Arriba at 7.3%.
In our area, Grant County had 5.9% unemployment in April, Hidalgo County had 5.7% and the Las Cruces area had 6.8%.
The counties with the least unemployment were Harding and Los Alamos with 3.3% each.
Unemployment statewide was 6.8% in April.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 11,973 – with 9,863 employed and 2,110 unemployed.
